Edward G. Mackay, MD, FACS, RPVI, RVT is Board-certified in General Surgery and Vascular Surgery by the American Board of Medical Specialties as well as a Diplomate of the American Board of Venous and Lymphatic Medicine. He has practiced vascular surgery in the Tampa Bay area since 1993 and has also shown special competence in the use of ultrasound by obtaining RVT (Registered Vascular Technician) and RPVI (Registered Physician in Vascular Interpretation) certifications. Some insurances require physicians to be a Vascular Surgeon, RVT and RPVI to do specific procedures.

A Florida native, Dr. Mackay earned his medical degree from the University of Florida Medical School in 1986. Dr. Mackay completed 4 years of a General Surgery residency at Georgia Baptist Medical Center in Atlanta and the University of Tennessee Medical Center in Knoxville. After his residency, Dr. Mackay completed a one-year Vascular Surgery fellowship with the University of Tennessee Medical Center. After practicing as an Emergency Physician for over 8 years and as a Chief of General Surgery for 2 years, Dr. Mackay opened his own practice in 1999 specializing in treating patients with venous disease.

As a highly-regarded physician and leader in treating venous disease, Dr. Mackay is considered to be one of the country�s leading vein specialists and continuously offers the latest in office-based vein therapies that will best benefit his patients. In 1999, Dr. Mackay was the first in the state of Florida to offer the Venefit targeted endovenous procedure and in 2001, he was the first in the Tampa Bay area to offer Endovenous Laser Treatment (EVLT). More recently, in 2013 Dr. Mackay was the first vein specialist in Florida to perform the innovative ClariVein infusion catheter endovenous closure procedure.
Due to his vast knowledge and particular experience concerning venous disease, Dr. Mackay is often invited to speak at numerous vascular conferences and provides training regarding vein treatment procedures to physicians throughout the US and internationally. Dr. Mackay is also a co-author for many published articles focusing on vein therapies. Additionally, Dr. Mackay is co-director of the International Vein Congress (IVC) held annually in Miami, FL. Along with fellow presenter, Dr. Jose Almeida, Dr. Mackay is co-director of the Venous Masters Practicum (VMP), which hosts a bi-annual working session in the Dominican Republic to train physicians on venous procedures and see patients who are in need of treatment.

In 2010, Dr. Mackay joined two other elite vein specialists to form a distinguished group called Vascular Device Partners who are some of the most skilled and highly experienced vascular surgeons in the country. Collectively as trained experts in vein procedures, along with state-of-the-art technology, Vascular Devices Partners continuously engages in clinical research and studies to evaluate new technology. They hold two patents to new surgical products of their own design, one product which is being used currently, and they have one patent pending.

Marissa is a Long Island, NY native. She received her Bachelors of Science degree and graduated Magna Cum Laude from Touro College School of Health Sciences in New York. She received her NCCPA Physician Assistant board certification in 2003. Marissa is a fellow of the American Academy of Physician Assistants and the Florida Academy of Physician Assistants. She is also trained in the use of vascular ultrasound and received her board certification as an RVT (Registered Vascular Technician) in 2014.

Since graduating as a physician assistant in 2003, Marissa has worked in vascular and thoracic surgery. She worked at New York Presbyterian Hospital/Columbia University on the lung transplant team until 2007. At that point, Marissa joined a general and vascular surgery group where she was trained in the latest procedures for venous disease. She is trained in varicose and spider vein sclerotherapy, ultrasound guided sclerotherapy, stab avulsion micro-phlebectomy and endovenous laser ablations. Additionally, Marissa is trained in wound care therapy and has performed hundreds of wound debridements. Marissa plans to continue to excel in the treatment of vein disease by utilizing state-of-the-art technology with Dr. Mackay. Marissa thrives on patient satisfaction and great results.

Jill Lane is a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), specializing in venous disease. A PA native, Jill obtained her LPN certification from the Altoona Area Vocational-Technical School of Nursing and then continued her education at Mount Aloyisus College.

Jill has practiced in a variety of settings, including 8 years as an Operating Room nurse and 4 years in the Gastroenterology field. Her desire to provide personalized patient service brought her to join Dr. Mackay's practice in March of 2000 as his surgical assistant and nurse. For over 13 years, Jill and Dr. Mackay have worked together as a team, treating patients with the upmost personalized service and state-of-the-art technical venous care in the Tampa Bay area. As an LPN in his practice, Jill assists Dr. Mackay with all procedures related to venous disease.

In addition, Jill takes care of patients that require sclerotherapy for spider veins and is working toward her Registered in Vascular Technology (RVT) certification.

Jennifer Spinelli, board-certified in RDMS (Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonography) and a RVT (Registered Vascular Technologist), has over 8 years experience in Vascular Ultrasound. She graduated with honors from Central Florida Institute with an Associate's Degree in Diagnostic Medical Sonography. She is proficient in performing abdomen, OB/GYN, breast, and vascular ultrasounds. Jenn also has many years experience with varicose and spider vein treatments such as EVLT, RF ablations and ambulatory phlebectomies. She began her vascular ultrasound career in Clearwater, FL and has been with our practice since October 2012.


Stacy, a Florida native, is a Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS) and a Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT). She received her Associates of Science degree in Diagnostic Medical Sonography from Central Florida Institute, graduating with honors. With over eight years experience in peripheral vascular testing, abdominal, OB/GYN, echo and small parts ultrasound exams, Stacy has gained her experience working locally for HCA and BayCare hospitals. Stacy has been with our practice since May 2013.
